This chaotic stage mess was pretty much par for the course that night. But hell, 23 people on stage at once is ALLways a good time.

Feb 15th 2003 - Hotel Utah - San Francisco, CA

Who woulda ever thunk that the Hotel Utah could be such a fun place to play? Saturday night. Pouring rain, and eveyone telling me that there were another million cool shows going on in town that very night. I don't know how we ranked amungst them all, but a ton of you made the effort to come out to see our first show with the new lineup, and for that, we thank you.

Zero productions hosted their second of two nights of musical mayhem at the Hotel. I heard that the first night went like clockwork, while our night was riddled with schedule changes, missing bands, last minute additions and a general up-for-grabs attitude. But as much as it hurt some of the other acts that evening, we actually benefitted from the chaos. Our set was scooted back a half hour later than scheduled, and that meant that the audience had just a little more time to settle in, order another round, and get in a rowdy mood for Clevergirl. By the time we went on, people were ready and waiting. What a great time slot! What great response!

It felt great up there. I think Jodi, Elaine, Rosie and I all had a ton of fun playin' for y'all, and as we said in the intro Bio that night...."we plan to play a LOT!"

Clearbox opened the evening using their guitarist as a substitute drummer. Nice fill-in! Rockethouse SF went on before us. I liked their groove. Long, long songs but cool beats under simple lilting guitar lines. I found it pretty. Austin Willacy followed us with a simple acoustic set. What can I say? Austin is not just my friend. I actually think he's a helluva songwriter. Go see him solo, or with his extra good band. You won't be dissappointed. And then there were some breakdancers. Not sure where they came from, but they were poppin' non stoppin'. And then bringin' up the rear, and being very sportsmanlike, was the Beth Champion Band. Too bad they went on so late, cuz people should see them play. They are rocky, and intelligent. Plus Beth is just cool to watch when she's tearin' up the guitar. Also, they do a mean cover of Paranoid Android. And that is no easy task.

Thanks to Eric for booking the night. It was a B-L-A-S-T!!
