"VARIETY PACK!" #5
Wed, August 6th - El Rio - SF, CA.

So far we've only been able to gather one photo of this amazing show. That's just sad. Sad, sad, sad. Won't someone just donate a tremendously high quality digital camera that takes great shots even in low light??

Anyway, it was a great fun show. We had a little extra something to live up to that night, as we had invited our friends Roxy and Booty from the band Ms.Led up from Seattle to play with us. And since Seattle has such a great musical history, and their band is so good, we wanted to make sure they were happy and stuff.

Plus, even more special, this was the last show we were playing with our keyboardist Elaine. It pains us to say, that she has to bid Clevergirl goodbye so she can concentrate on healing from a long-standing back injury. We are very sad cuz she's so groovy and was such a fun addition to our little world, but alas, she must recover.

So all this stuff rolled up into us stepping up on all levels and putting out a really lively, fun set. We don't know what y'all thought, but we thought it was really lively and fun.

Starting us off was the 6 Million Dollar Band. Now these guys are a hoot. A cover don't need to be perfect to be effective, and these guys accomplish what they set out to do: to bring back memories, good and bad, of all your favorite tv shows from your Childhood. Of course there's the Munsters and Happy Days, but they also know The Courtship of Eddie's Father AND Banana Splits. Ha!

Once the 6MDB got everyone in a festive mood, we unleashed Roxy and Bootsy (of Ms.Led) from Seattle. And they pulled off a high-energy girl stomp with just guitar and drums.

Fuck the White Stripes.

Just fuck 'em.

Check out their full band called "Ms.Led". Their new cd is tremendous. If you like Sleater Kinney, you'll like Ms. Led. Period.

Next up, just to keep folks on their toes, we had the debut of Maneater and the Private Eyes. "Familiar", you might think? Why yes, it's true. It's a Hall 'n' Oates cover band. Yep. We make no excuses for genius.

Clevergirl took the stage after that, and we played our "lively, fun set" like we mentioned above. It was great. Karen tried a new experiment to see if she could get the stick out of her ass when she was on stage. She did this with just the right balance of the right amount of Tecate at just the right times. It worked wonderfully.

Now the only downer of the whole night is how many of y'all missed Bevelacqua. Was it too loud? too amazing? was the drummer too fast and you were dizzy after all the tequila shots? Were you afraid of getting bludgeoned by a flying microphone? Dammit people, this ain't no knitting circle! It's rock and roll. Well, maybe you can catch them again when you have your earplugs and kevlar, cuz they're SO DAMNED worth it.

But we would really like to thank everyone who participated and came out to catch the VP # 5. You are making these a whole helluvalotta fun. And a big huge thank you to Elaine for taking us this far...We'll miss playing with you!
