Previous show | Next show Oct 10th, 2003 - The Tonic Lounge - Portland, OR Two shows in one night. How groovy!? We'd just come from the Rabbit Hole show, and were nice and warmed up for the Tonic Lounge. Sonically the highlight of the tour, for sure. If there are any venue owners out there reading this, take note: "if you build it, they will come". A great sound system for your club is invaluable. YOU wanted to start a huge night club. YOU made the conscious choice to have LIVE music at your club. Yet you don't invest in descent mains, kickass monitors and especially a sound guy who's not a fool!?? People, People, People!!! Learn from the Tonic Lounge. They are doing it RIGHT!!! It sounded great up there! We played first. No one knew who we were, so we slloooowwly pulled people from the other room into ours. By the time we finished, we had an audience! Karen's friend Cal (formerly of Pinehurst Kids) played next. He did six songs with just a guitar. Covers of Christina Aguilera, and other top 40 hits coming from an unassuming, yet obviously quirky man. Thanks for getting us on the bill Cal!!! Then there was another solo dude named Dave. He's actually the booker for the Tonic now. He plays in a band called Cinema, and was going it alone that night. Quite a popular act from another low key songwriter. Thanks to Dave too for keeping us on the bill even though you took over Cal's job. And lastly there was a band called Everyday Victory. Portland seems to like it's pop bands. It's funny cuz SF is all about the hard core/glam/metal rock. And Portland is chock full of sweet boys and girls playing radio friendly hits. And since Clevergirl is not really known for it's heavy metal and hair extensions, we'll spoon with the popsters. Everyday Victory was up there with the best of 'em, crankin' out the hooky melodies and angsty boy vocals. Nice cats, for sure. Groovy chick on bass. Cute boy in front. Twas a good ending to a swell show. Thank you Portland! Good night!
