Oct 11th, 2003 - Cafe Venus/MarsBar - Seattle, WA

We started out our day with a little treasure hunt. Brought to you by Jodi Durst. It was titled: "Find My Fuckin' Basses".

We checked the house where we stayed. We checked the bowels of the van. We even checked our pockets. And then Rosie had an idea. Wonder if we left them at the club last night after our show?

So now the dillema: How does one infiltrate a night club that's only open at night, when it's not nighttime?

Answer: You have your friend Devin make some calls.

Thank god he's connected. We were able to back track to the Tonic Lounge, get the owner to open the doors, and there in the corner....lonely and weaping...were the temporarily orphaned basses. Whew!

On to Seattle, shall we? Katy and the MarsBar await!

Musical Interlude brought to you by:

Prince
Radiohead
Portishead
Rolling Stones

Arriving right on time, we pulled up to Cafe Venus and the MarsBar. Karen's other band has played here several times, and knows the owner Katy from back in the day. So she was excited to introduce her bandmates to some awesome Seattle hospitality and great food.

Katy opened Cafe Venus a few years back as a place where locals could get a great home-cooked meal, or sit at the little bar in the back and enjoy the company and the view of Seattle out the back. But Katy is a doer, and she's never satisfied until her schedule is busting full, and she's taken on the world. So she expanded her little empire almost two years ago, and built the MarsBar next door. It now has a second bar, pool table and best of all...live music!!!! And we got to partake in the bounty!

We played with local favorites Roxy, Clark & Bootsy (all members of Ms. Led) We played with LA's Tresspassers William. And we played with another local duo, Siren.

This was a lot of bands for one night. Probably too many for the tight schedule. But it was quite a good lineup, and we all managed to squeeze in a descent-length set (sorry to Siren who got cut a little extra short), and be done by midnight.

Roxy, and Bootsy came to SF without Clark to play a VARIETY PACK!! not long ago, so we knew them already. They rock. Politically-minded, gender-tinged rock with unexpected drive from a guitar/drum/accordian band.

A real treat of the evening was Tresspassers William. Strange name. Beautiful Band. The beauty of Grandaddy with a buttery female vocal. But still that lilting, sadly rural feel. Plus they had a video projection that was quite lovely and went well with the entrancing music.

We had a great time playing the end slot. The crowd was pumped, and a reviewer from TheThree Imaginary Girls Website was there. If you want to read a more stirring article about the show, check it out!

It's been a crazy few days. We are tired. And so we decided to stay the next day in Seattle and chill with Katy and Roxy and friends. We went out to eat. We went to the fish market after hours. We went to an art gallery showing. And then WE WENT BOWLING!!!!!

Seattle is the bomb-diggity!!!

Thank you Katy and Lesli so much for setting this up for us!!!!

Homeward Bound. Long drive. Tired. Late. And we got two words for the last-leg driver at 2A.M.:

Tenacious D
